The Farmer Veteran Coalition started its annual conference for women veterans in agriculture two years ago. The event was well received and easily doubled in attendance in year two as well as amount of funders interested and involved in the unique project. The conference is focused on equipping women veterans with the business and farming tools they need to begin and achieve their entrepreneurial goals. Post-conference, FVC has helped continue to grow the women veteran farmer community and continues to be a leader for farm education and women veterans.
This year FVC is launching regional retreats in CA. These events are just for women in the military and veterans will have two main focuses. We will teach financial literacy and gain a thorough understanding of a business plan. Additionally, participants will gain an understanding of what goes into putting together a solid loan packet-vital for women veterans seeking land or operating loans. Second, we will bring the women together over a team building activity and provide them with a space to make new friends and network for business purposes. This will foster further connection among the women veteran community in California.
The Northern California retreat will be held in Davis at the Farmer Veteran Coalition headquarters. The two-day event will feature both educational seminars and a yoga intensive. FVC is partnering with Yoga across America to give the attendees the option to practice yoga on the evening of the first day and morning of the second day. It is our goal that the participants will leave the event feeling rejuvenated and empowered both in body and mind.
The Southern California retreat will be incorporating business plan and loan preparation sessions, participants will also be given an opportunity to visit a local farm business. The event will be hosted at the La Casa de Maria Retreat and Conference Center located in Santa Barbara, CA. The retreat will commence on Friday, June 20th, with a welcome dinner and conclude on Sunday, June 22nd.
